Seriah Black
Fantasy / Romantasy Author
For the Love of the Angsty Antihero
in a Shifting World
Seriah Black is a mixed-race, BIPOC author of fantasy, high fantasy-romance, and fairy tale reimaginings, exploring the dual nature and thoughts of individuals. When not putting sharp objects in the hands of mercurial antiheroes, Black reads the thickest shapeshifter novels available, chronicles life in journals rivaling the Vampire Diaries, and occasionally travels to other countries. One day soon, the novels that have burned in Black’s heart and mind for so many years will burn in the hearts and minds of thousands of readers. Until then, nothing beats routine self-steeping in a good cuppa tea.
Seriah Black contributed “Quench to the Hilt” to the Love Potion 69 anthology (2024), winner of the Golden Pigtails 2024 “It’s Always Better Together” category. “Between a Rock and a Bar Fight” in Night Shift (2024) also made it to the semifinals. In the previous year, Salty, With a Taste of Dragon, a dragon shifter romance, placed as a 2023 Passionate Plume finalist in the Virgin (unpublished) Speculative novel category.
Black’s short speculative publications include “Make Me Real” in Blood+Honey literary journal (2026), “Roulette” and “King of None” in Beginnings and Endings (2025). Spicy fantasy publications include “King Me Kitty” in vol. 5 of The Siren’s Song Literary Journal (2026), “Between a Rock and a Bard Place” in Secrets We Keep (2024), and “Man of Many Smiles” (2023).

A long-standing member of the FictionPress community, Black had the privilege of watching contemporaries like Elise Kova and S.J. Maas succeed. Black continues to experiment with what is possible in speculative fiction through lively writing communities like G.G. Silverman’s speculative Short Fiction Intensive (2023), Ruth Joffre’s Yearlong in Speculative Fiction at Hugo House (2023, 2025), and The Kenyon Review‘s summer residency in fiction (2024).
